Accreditation step from the New Media and Communication Department...

Üsküdar University's Faculty of Communication, which prioritizes quality and accreditation efforts, is raising the bar for educational quality. Following the departments of New Media and Communication, Visual Communication and Design, Advertising, Journalism, Radio, Television and Cinema, Public Relations and Promotion, action has now been taken for the New Media and Communication Department. The New Media and Communication Department has been included in the accreditation process by the Communication Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board (İLEDAK). As part of this process, the faculty's educational infrastructure, academic activities, and quality practices were evaluated in detail. 

The İLEDAK team, which conducts accreditation evaluations of programs in the field of communication on behalf of the Communication Research Association (İLAD), conducted various reviews in the Department of New Media and Communication between November 10 and 12. As part of the process, the faculty's education and training infrastructure, academic activities, and quality practices were evaluated in detail.

The program, held in the Senate Hall of Üsküdar University's Central Campus, was attended by Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, the İLEDAK evaluation team, and the faculty's academic and administrative staff.

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: "We see the evaluation team as our companions on this journey."

In her opening remarks, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör mentioned that the Department of New Media and Communication was undergoing the accreditation process for the first time. 

Referring to Üsküdar University's vision for research and internationalization, Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör said, "Our quality processes are not limited to obtaining certificates. For us, the main thing is to set our course correctly with the contribution of external stakeholders. It is to move forward in line with our vision. We see the evaluation team not as auditors, but as stakeholders and companions." 

“Quality processes at Üsküdar are a team effort”

Güngör stated that five departments of the Faculty of Communication have received full accreditation to date, and two departments will be included in the process in the coming period, adding, "Quality processes at Üsküdar University are a team effort. Our faculty has a growing academic ecosystem that supports each other. It is gratifying to see this culture successfully reflected in the accreditation processes."

Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel: "We are among the top-ranked foundation universities"

Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Vice Rector of Üsküdar University, stated that work on international ranking systems is ongoing. Ergüzel said, "Our university ranks among the top private universities in Turkey in Impact Rankings evaluations. This success is an indicator of our academic productivity and sustainable quality vision." 

Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay: "We are internalizing the concept of sustainable development."

Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Üsküdar University, gave a general presentation on the faculty. Stating that the faculty continues to provide education with eight departments and that five departments have received full accreditation, Atalay said, "Our New Media and Communication department is included in the evaluation process for the first time this year. Quality processes and the concept of sustainable development have been internalized across all our departments."

Prof. Dr. Atalay emphasized that the eight departments within the faculty have added AI-based courses to their curricula as of the 2025–2026 academic year. 

Atalay said, "We have integrated artificial intelligence applications suitable for each department into the course programs. This approach aims to equip our students with the new skills required by digital transformation."

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan: "I see evaluations as an opportunity for development, not oversight."

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of the Journalism Department at the Faculty of Communication, commented on the accreditation process. Stating that they see the process as an opportunity for development, İrvan said, "Nothing is perfect; what matters is doing good work and moving in the right direction. We will work together to address our shortcomings. I see evaluations not as oversight, but as an opportunity for self-improvement." 

The program, which included faculty management, faculty members, and evaluation committee members, provided comprehensive information about the process. 

On the second day, the facilities were toured

On the second day of the institutional visit, the Faculty of Communication was toured. The evaluators visited classrooms, computer labs, the library, workshops, and studios. 

Meetings were held with faculty members

As part of the visit, meetings were also held with department heads and unit managers. 

During the meetings, the administrators answered questions about the university and the faculty. 

The evaluation report was presented at the exit meeting

On the last day of the institutional visit, the evaluation team read their report based on their observations and evaluations. The head of the evaluation team then submitted the report to the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay.

The process is ongoing

In the next stage of the process, the New Media and Communication Department will have 15 days to submit any objections to the report. The ILEDAK evaluation team will prepare its final report, taking into account the 15-day response, and submit it to the ILEDAK management. The ILEDAK management will review the report and submit it to the ILAD Board of Directors for a decision. The final decision on accreditation will be made by the ILAD Board of Directors based on the evaluation team's report and recommendation. The process is expected to be completed within two months.
