A major step toward a “barrier-free university”…

Üsküdar University, continuing its efforts in the areas of accessibility and inclusivity in higher education, has submitted applications in 21 different categories for the “Barrier-Free University 2026 Awards” organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Üsküdar submitted applications covering various faculties, institutes, colleges, and campuses in the areas of educational access, physical access, program and campus accessibility, and web accessibility. The initiatives submitted for evaluation—which spanned both program-based initiatives and campus and digital accessibility—once again demonstrated Üsküdar’s commitment to an inclusive approach to education.

Üsküdar University submitted award applications on behalf of its various faculties, institutes, colleges, and campuses for its work in the areas of educational access, physical access, program accessibility, and web accessibility.

The applications were submitted via YÖKSİS through the Accessible University Flags and Medals Application and Evaluation System (BODSİS). 

Applications were submitted for Accessible University Flags and Medals in a total of 21 categories.

In this context, applications for the Accessible Program Medal were submitted on behalf of the Social Services Program at the Vocational School of Health Services and the Department of Sufi Culture and Literature at the Institute of Sufi Studies. 

Additionally, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Health Services Vocational College submitted applications to be evaluated in the “Access to Education” category; 

- the Faculty of Dentistry, 

- the Faculty of Medicine, 

- Faculty of Health Sciences, 

- School of Health Services, 

- the Institute of Health Sciences, and 

- the Institute of Social Sciences submitted their applications in the on-site access category.

While applications for the Accessibility Flag Award in the area of campus accessibility were submitted for the NP Health Campus and the Çarşı Campus, an application for the Web Accessibility Badge—which demonstrates the university website’s compliance with accessibility standards—was also submitted. 

Thus, Üsküdar University has completed its applications for the Accessible University Flag and Badge Awards in a total of 21 categories, covering educational access, physical accessibility, program accessibility, campus accessibility, and web accessibility. 

Üsküdar University continues to improve its practices year after year to support the equal, independent, and active participation of individuals with disabilities in education, social life, and campus services. 

The philosophy of inclusive education continues 

Efforts spanning numerous areas—from making physical spaces accessible to organizing educational processes in an inclusive manner, and from digital accessibility initiatives to student support services—constitute a vital part of the university’s commitment to barrier-free and inclusive education.
