How does the Higher Education Quality Board YÖKAK work?
The Higher Education Quality Board, which was established within the scope of the "Regulation on Higher Education Quality Assurance" published in the Official Gazette dated July 23, 2015 and numbered 29423, was reorganized according to the provisions of Additional Article 35 added to the Higher Education Law No. 2547 with the Law No. 7033 dated July 1, 2017 on the Amendment of Certain Laws and Decree Laws in order to Develop Industry and Support Production.
The Higher Education Quality Board, which is an organization with administrative and financial autonomy, public legal personality and a special budget, conducts internal and external quality assurance, accreditation processes and authorization of independent external evaluation institutions that evaluate the quality levels of higher education institutions' education and research activities and administrative services according to national and international quality standards.
Among the 13 Members of the Higher Education Quality Board:
- Three selected by the Council of Higher Education,
- Three selected by UAK,
- One chosen by the Ministry of Education,
- One representative of the Executive Board,
- One representative representing the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey,
- One representative of TÜBİTAK,
- One representative of TURKAK
- One representative of TOBB and
- There is one student representative member.
The Main Duties of the Higher Education Quality Board:
- To conduct external evaluation of higher education institutions,
- To carry out the processes of authorization and recognition of accreditation bodies and
- To ensure the internalization and dissemination of quality assurance culture in higher education institutions.
