Full accreditation achieved at SHMYO…

Üsküdar University School of Health Services (SHMYO), held a ceremony to celebrate the “Emergency Medical Services Program” and the “Medical Laboratory Techniques Program,” which were awarded full accreditation by the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Vocational Education (MEDEK). During the ceremony, faculty members and administrative staff who contributed to the accreditation process were thanked for their efforts. SHMYO Director Dr. Ömer Faruk Karasakal emphasized that full accreditation is an important indicator of educational quality, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a student-centered approach. Noting that this was the first time in the college’s history that applications had been submitted to an accreditation body for two programs simultaneously, Karasakal stated that this achievement was a source of pride for the college. The ceremony also highlighted the importance of embedding quality assurance efforts into the institution’s culture.

The ceremony, held in the Emir Nebi 1 Conference Hall at the Çarşı Campus, was attended by Dr. Ömer Faruk Karasakal, Director of the School of Health Services (SMHYO), Assistant Professors Feride Kulalı Özdek and Esad Sadık Demirtaş, SMHYO Secretary Makbule Dede, and faculty members.

As part of the program, faculty members who played a role in and contributed to the accreditation process were thanked. Additionally, the contributions of the accreditation efforts to the school’s educational quality and future goals were discussed.

A proud achievement for the School!

Speaking at the ceremony, SHMYO Director Dr. Ömer Faruk Karasakal, Assistant Professor, noted that this was the first time in the history of Üsküdar University’s School of Health Services Vocational College that an application had been submitted to an accreditation body for two programs, He stated that the First Aid and Emergency Care Program and the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program earning full accreditation was a proud achievement for the college.

Accreditation is more than just a certificate…

Karasakal emphasized that accreditation is not merely a certificate or title, but an important process that demonstrates the alignment of educational activities with quality standards, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a student-centered approach to education. He noted that full accreditation is an indication that the programs have been successfully evaluated in terms of their educational objectives, learning outcomes, faculty, physical infrastructure, practical training opportunities, assessment and evaluation processes, and stakeholder participation.

Stating that this success was the result of strong teamwork, Karasakal thanked the program chairs, faculty members, administrative staff, students, alumni, and external stakeholders who worked diligently throughout the accreditation process. 

Quality assurance efforts must become part of the institutional culture

Highlighting the importance of making quality assurance efforts an integral part of the institutional culture, Karasakal said that this achievement would serve as a significant source of motivation for the accreditation processes of other programs as well. The ceremony also focused on the benefits that accreditation efforts will provide to students and alumni. It was noted that accredited programs increase national recognition, encourage the continuous improvement of educational quality, and make positive contributions to graduates’ professional competencies.

At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to Assistant Professor Ayşe Bağlı, Head of the Emergency Medical Services Program; Assistant Professors Ayfer Kaya and Keziban Turan; and Dr. Ömer Faruk Karasakal, Assistant Professor and Head of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program, Lecturer Eyser Kılıç, Lecturer Osman Özşahin, and Lecturer Tuğçe Soylamış, who contributed to the accreditation process, were presented with certificates of appreciation. 

In addition, certificates of appreciation were presented to Dr. Öznur Karaoğlu, Chair of the SHMYO Quality Commission for the term; commission members Dr. Burcu Dündar Ertemiz, Instructor Duygu Deniz Şentürk, Instructor Emine Akgün, Instructor Nelis Bosnalı, and Instructor Tuğçe Yılmaz Karan were also presented with certificates of appreciation for their valuable contributions to the accreditation process. 

The SHMYO administration was also honored with a certificate of appreciation for the leadership and support they demonstrated throughout the process.

Quality-focused efforts will continue…

While sharing in the joy of this achievement, the participants emphasized that the college would resolutely continue its quality-focused efforts. The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and a group photo.
