Universities are assessed in categories such as infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation and education. GreenMetric mainly focuses on the size of universities' green spaces, zoning profile, energy consumption, measured carbon footprint, education and research on environmental sustainability, and existing policies. Universities are ranked according to their total score in all of these categories, with individual scores for each category.
