

The Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program and the Career Center Department organized an "Alumni Meeting" event. Üsküdar graduates who have worked in various sectors came together with students online. They shared their professional experiences, the opportunities and challenges they faced in the sector with the students and provided information to those who want to pursue a career in the field.
The event was moderated by SHMYO Vice Director, Head of Electricity and Energy Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Feride Kulalı Özdek, Head of Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program Assoc. Assist. Dilek Aker and Remziye Çopur, Head of Career Center Department.
Sude Nur Özkan and Ecem Gazanfer, Radiation Safety Officers at MOLTEK Health Services Production and Marketing, Yuşa Gürsoy, Radiation Safety Technician at Monrol, Mahmut Ekrem Yaşar, 1st Category Technician at Akkuyu Nuclear, Hüseyin Dinç and Ramazan Örgen, Responsible Technician at Kartal Training and Research Hospital Nuclear Medicine Department.
Sude Nur Özkan and Ecem Gazanfer, Radiation Safety Officers at MOLTEK Health Services Production and Marketing, talked about their experiences. In their speeches, they discussed the importance of radiation safety practices in radioisotope centers and the responsibilities they fulfill. The accelerators used in radioisotope production, the procedures for armoring and transporting isotopes, and the care and attention required in working with radiation were underlined.
Yuşa Gürsoy, Radiation Safety Technician working at Monrol, a company that provides services in the field of radiopharmaceuticals, briefly talked about the company and shared his experiences during the recruitment process. He also emphasized the vital role of safety protocols in radioactive material production processes.
Mahmut Ekrem Yaşar, one of the first graduates of the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program, works as a Category 1 Technician at Akkuyu Nuclear, one of Turkey's largest nuclear energy projects. After briefly explaining the process before this position, Yaşar talked about the career opportunities at Akkuyu Nuclear and his own career adventure and advised students to strive for their goals and be determined. He emphasized that technical knowledge, discipline and safety awareness should be carried out together in the nuclear energy sector.
Hüseyin Dinç, the Responsible Technician of the Nuclear Medicine Department of Kartal Training and Research Hospital, who graduated from the Medical Imaging Techniques and Radiotherapy Programs, is also continuing his education in the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program. Dinç drew attention to the correct and safe use of radiation in clinical applications and explained the practices that ensure patient safety and the use of hot rooms.
Ramazan Örgen shared his Erasmus+ experience gained during the program and talked about the benefits of doing an internship abroad in the field of nuclear technology and the impact of cultural interactions on professional development.
The event set a strong example of solidarity among alumni and provided an inspiring and guiding platform for current students.
Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable information about career paths after graduation as well as professional development.
