Vision and quality development meeting was held in communication education

Usküdar University Faculty of Communication hosted a meeting on "A Visionary Perspective in Communication Education" with the participation of important representatives from the sector. At the meeting, what can be done to improve the quality of communication education was discussed.



Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication brought together important representatives of the sector to discuss what can be done to improve the quality of communication education. The dean of the Faculty of Communication, department heads, vice deans, faculty student representatives and external stakeholders of the faculty attended the meeting held under the title of "A Visionary View on Communication Education".



Significant names from the field met

Sibel Güneş, Secretary General of the Association of Journalists of Turkey, Dursun Güleryüz, General Manager of Televizyon İzleme A.Ş., Galip Eraydın from Demirören News Agency, Fatma Körünoğlu, General Manager of Şapka Agency, Ege Ellidokuzoğlu, General Manager of Ellidokuzoğlu Production Company, İzzet Aydın, President of the International Association of Internet Journalism and Journalists (UIGAD) and Selçuk Taşdemir, Secretary General of UIGAD, and Büşra Özdoğan, Student Representative of the Faculty of Communication, among the internal stakeholders of the Faculty, took part in the meeting.



Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: "We will expand such search meetings"

The opening speech of the meeting moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of the Department of New Media and Journalism, was made by Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Dean of the Faculty of Communication. Güngör stated that this was the first meeting in the form of a search conference that brought the sector and the Faculty of Communication together and that such meetings will be expanded and continued over a longer period of time. Güngör thanked the participants and left the floor to Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan to lead the meeting.

İrvan gave the first floor to Faculty Student Representative Büşra Özdoğan. Büşra Özdoğan, the representative of the Student Council, one of the internal stakeholders of the faculty, who was present at the meeting in order for the students to be involved in the quality development process, shared the demands of the students with the faculty management and external stakeholders. Stating that students care about the university culture, Özdoğan stated that they expect more time and resources to be allocated to activities in order to adopt the university identity.



After the evaluation of the students' demands, the meeting continued with the discussion of the observations, evaluations and suggestions of the external stakeholders of Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication. Dursun Güleryüz (President of Televizyon İzleme A.Ş., TİAK), Sibel Güneş (Journalist, Secretary General of the Turkish Journalists Association, TGC), İzzet Aydın (President of the International Association of Internet Journalists and Journalists, UIGAD) and Selçuk Taşdemir (Secretary General of UIGAD) emphasized the qualifications needed in the sector and how these qualifications can be provided to students and made suggestions regarding the curriculum.

Fatma Körünoğlu and Ege Ellidokuzoğlu, who are experienced in the field of communication sector and also lecturers at Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, stated that they are satisfied with the equipment and studio facilities provided by the faculty. Galip Eraydın, an experienced journalist from the DHA Foreign News team, one of the sector representatives who attended the meeting, talked about the difficulties that communication students may face after graduation and explained the criteria that stand out in job interviews.



Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan: "The exchange of views will become continuous"

In the evaluation part of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan emphasized that this meeting was the beginning of a search conference and that the problems and solution proposals were discussed in general terms, but that communication education should be discussed from different perspectives and in more detail in more comprehensive meetings and that the exchange of views should be made continuous. Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör also thanked the participants at the closing of the meeting, stating that academics, students and external stakeholders in the faculty will come together more frequently from now on to discuss the problems of communication education and strive to create common solution proposals.
