Gizem Şahin, a senior student in the Department of Forensic Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, was elected as a full member of the YÖKAK Student Commission by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK).

Gizem Şahin, a senior student at Üsküdar University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Forensic Sciences, was selected as a full member of the YÖKAK Student Commission by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK), which is responsible for authorizing and recognizing program accreditation bodies and deciding the institutional accreditation of higher education institutions in Turkey.

The call announced by the Higher Education Quality Board to appoint members to serve on the YÖKAK Student Commission in the 2023-2024 Academic Year received 82 applications from 45 higher education institutions. After the evaluations, 17 candidates from 16 higher education institutions qualified for the interview. A total of 7 new members were elected to the student commission consisting of 11 members. Gizem Şahin, a student of Üsküdar University, was also eligible to be among the new 7 members.

Şahin started her quality studies with the Quality Ambassador Program and Quality Ambassador Workshop organized by the Higher Education Quality Council and successfully completed these training programs. She is currently working as a student working in the Quality Directorate. She is also the President of the Quality Club and carries out club activities under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Yalçın Sarıbey.
Higher Education Quality Council Student Commission
The Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) Student Commission was established on October 01, 2019 in line with the decision taken by YÖKAK on October 01, 2019; in order to disseminate the quality assurance culture in the field of higher education, internalize quality processes and increase the participation of students in the quality assurance system, as well as to carry out studies at national and international level. The duties of YÖKAK Student Commission are as follows:

• To carry out studies to ensure the internalization and dissemination of quality assurance culture in higher education by students,
• To increase student participation in quality assurance processes in higher education,
• To plan the activities to be carried out during the academic year and submit them to the Board,
• To carry out studies with student participation at national and international level,
• To propose evaluator candidate students to the Institutional External Evaluation and Accreditation Commission to take part in the evaluation programs carried out by the Board,
• To create an archive of the work carried out and present it to the Board,
• Preparing an activity report on the activities carried out by the Commission within the relevant year and presenting it to the Board, organizing Quality Ambassador Training.
